about

As an interdisciplinary firm with over thirty-five years of experience in the professions of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Planning, Cee Jay Frederick Associates provides a most comprehensive approach to design and planning.  With the philosophical underpinning of the firm established in the disciplines of Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning, sustainability and respect for the natural systems/environment along with the social and man-made constituency inherent in the built environment are the principal components of an all inclusive mission.  Respect for our clients’ needs and adherence to their programmatic and budgetary requirements are also of paramount importance in the performance of our work.  Our professional responsibility is to provide appropriate design and planning solutions that synthesize site and environmental criteria, a client’s programmatic needs and aesthetic preferences, and our professional background, expertise, and experience.

Within this context we have consistently deployed a creative interdisciplinary decision-making approach that seeks to reconcile our environmental conscience, aesthetic tendencies, and the unique responsibilities embodied in being of service to a diverse clientele.  Our identity has always been defined by professional disciplines capable of understanding and manipulating both the natural and man-made/built environment.  As such, our approach to each project is informed by the range of influence and greater meaning embodied in a world larger than the project site, ultimately rendering the synergy of the details greater than the sum of its parts.  To ensure success within this background, we are process oriented. Participation by our clients in the process is integral to the development of solutions that are superior in functional, technical, and aesthetic terms, yet responsive to environmental, regulatory, technical, and budgetary criteria, and ensures the satisfaction of specific and detailed needs and desires.

Cee Jay Frederick Associates employs in-house architects, landscape architects and (land) planners.  As a small firm we do not maintain an overarching hierarchy, but rely more upon the diverse capabilities of the individual staff members to cross the boundaries of these individual professional disciplines to render a successful outcome to the design and planning challenges we are presented.  The process demands a hands-on and close relationship between consultant and client. Principal involvement in all aspects of the work characterizes our management style, to provide not only for a continuity of understanding and effort, but also to guarantee timely, appropriate and responsive performance.

The geographical platform for the performance of our work is primarily the northeastern United States, though we have also been involved in projects in the southeastern, southwestern, and northwestern United States, and Hawaii.  The types of projects that characterize the firm’s portfolio demonstrate a range of capabilities that define its interdisciplinary identity.  In all, we employ a most creative problem-solving approach to address detailed design or large-scale planning, single structure/building or community planning and design, landscape design, or land planning.  Nonetheless, the research and rigor of the process is identical to the performance of a specialty-oriented practice.  To that end, we have been the recipient of awards for the performance of both large and small-scale design and planning projects.
